9 September 2012: To Pitt's Garden

Entrance to Pitt's Garden, Sandy Heath

This shows the entrance in the wall at North End Avenue, leading up to Pitt's Garden, which isn't a garden but a part of Sandy Heath. The Garden takes its name from William Pitt, who lived in a house there in the 18th century. The house was demolished after the Second World War, and its former garden became part of Hampstead Heath. Today, all that is left of it is a lonely archway, some steps, and this wall.
