21 September 2013: Sloes

Sloes

Sloes, the fruit of the blackthorn, are now ripening. Blackthorns can be found in the hedgerows on Hampstead Heath. These slows are growing on a tall shrub between the two Cohen's Fields, near the Goodison Fountain.

These scarlet hips are the fruit of dog roses that grow in the hedges around Parliament Hill Fields.

Sloes

Blackthorns can be found in several locations on the Heath, there are many in the hedges around Parliament Hill Fields. These sloes grow in a bush near the Mixed Bathing Pond, next to the path that leads to Parliament Hill.

Blackberries, Hampstead Heath

There have been lots of blackberries on Hampstead Heath this year. Some have been picked, some have gone over now; some are still looking good, like these berries from a bramble hedge on Pryors Field.
